Edge of the Smokies
A mountain cabin that still feels like it should
The Glenway Chalet has been part of the Maggie Valley landscape for half a century. What drew us to it was how much of that original character still remains — the kind of place that feels like it's always belonged here.
Perched at 3,543 feet in the Maggie Valley Club community, right on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains, the cabin is surrounded by hardwoods, mountain laurel, and the kind of quiet that makes the rest of the world hard to remember.
Four bedrooms, two fireplaces, a hot tub, and a wraparound deck that earns its keep from April through October. Come for Cataloochee skiing, waterfall hikes, and Blue Ridge Parkway views — stay because you're not ready to leave.

The Field Guide
Right where you want to be
The Glenway sits in a sweet spot — close to everything, quiet enough to leave it all behind. Here’s what’s just outside your door.
GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS
The most visited national park in the country is right next door. Over 800 miles of trails, old-growth forest, and some of the best wildlife viewing on the East Coast. You’re on the edge of it here.
SKIING & SNOW TUBING
Cataloochee Ski Area is right up the road with slopes for every level. Tube World sits nearby for snow tubing; same ownership, same good time. Sapphire Valley, Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, & Hatley Pointe are all within day-trip range.
HIKING & WATERFALLS
Max Patch for a bucket-list sunset, Black Balsam Knob for high-altitude meadows, Graveyard Fields for waterfall chasing. Trailheads are everywhere out here — from easy loops to all-day ridgeline hikes.
DOLLYWOOD
Dolly’s theme park is a scenic 90-minute drive through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s a full day, easy.
SCENIC DRIVING
The Blue Ridge Parkway runs right through the backyard — Richland Balsam, the highest point on the Parkway, is a short detour. Windows down, music up, no rush. The back roads through Haywood County aren’t bad either.
GOLF
Multiple courses within 45 minutes, including the Maggie Valley Club right in the community.
FLY FISHING
Mountain streams and the Pigeon River are close by — quiet, clear, and known for world-class trout fishing.
ELK VIEWING
Cataloochee Valley is one of the best spots on the East Coast to see wild elk — dawn and dusk are prime time. In fall, bugling bulls can be heard from the road during the rut. Waterrock Knob offers sightings too, plus panoramic views of the Blue Ridge.
CASINO & LIVE MUSIC
Gaming tables, slots, dining, and a packed concert calendar — all at Harrah's Cherokee, about 35 minutes down the mountain. While you're there, the Museum of the Cherokee People and Qualla Arts & Crafts are worth the stop.
CRAFT BREWERIES
Asheville is Beer City USA — dozens of craft breweries within an hour. Closer to home, Waynesville and Sylva have their own taproom scenes worth exploring.
MOTORCYCLING
The Parkway in spring and fall draws riders from all over the Southeast. Wheels Through Time — Dale Walksler's collection of over 300 rare American motorcycles — is right here in Maggie Valley and worth the stop even if you don't ride.
REST & RECHARGE
Two fireplaces, a hot tub, and space to do absolutely nothing. Sometimes the best plan is no plan at all.
Maggie Valley, North Carolina
The Pearl of the Smokies
In 1904, a mountain postmaster named Jack Setzer needed a name for the new post office in his home. He submitted his three daughters' names to Washington — and they picked Maggie. She was fourteen, embarrassed, and ran up the mountain crying. The valley's been Maggie's ever since.
Today it's a quiet town on the edge of the Smokies, where the Blue Ridge Parkway curves through the backyard and elk graze in the meadows below Cataloochee. Neighboring Waynesville bills itself as the gateway to the Smokies — but Maggie Valley is already there. The ski runs are never crowded, the stars come out in force, and the restaurants along Soco Road still feel like they belong to the people who live here.
Less than an hour from Asheville, minutes from the national park, and a world away from both.

Meet your hosts
Welcome to the mountains
We're Ryan and Katie. We fell in love with Western North Carolina long before we ever owned a home here. It's a landscape that quietly convinces you to stay longer than you planned.
We've spent a lot of time thinking about what makes a stay feel effortless. Ryan brings the precision of a software engineer to the mechanics of the house, while Katie's background in corporate sustainability ensures we operate mindfully.
We believe the best design is the kind you don't have to think about; functional, intuitive, and dialed-in. Through Hygge Hospitality, we've focused on those intuitive, quiet details so you can simply arrive and exhale.
We're glad you're here.
